English 11 Fear

When I was 12 years old, I was scared of depths. I'm still afraid of that. When I was 10 years old or so, I was swimming in the middle of the lake that my family and I travel to in the summer. I was thrown from a tube I was riding, and I looked down under the surface and I couldn't see anything except the refracting light of the sun. Since I can't see anything, I'm afraid of something grabbing me and pulling me into the emptiness where I can't breathe. I'm not afraid of heights like my father. Heights aren't that scary, it's just the fall and the sudden stop at the end that is scary. Unlike depths, I can think and see clearly with heights.
What similar with the fear of depths and the island is that their both unknown to people. And that scares the poop out of people.
